Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole unblanched almonds
- 1 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 10 Tbs. unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup light-brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. grated lemon zest
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp. almond extract
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup raisins
Directions
Heat oven to 375°. Line the bottom and two long sides of a 13″ x 9″ pan with foil. Butter the foil and exposed sides of the pan. Chop almonds. Combine flour, soda and salt. With an electric mixer set at medium speed, beat butter, sugar and lemon zest until creamy. Beat in vanilla, almond extract and egg. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in raisins. Spread dough in the prepared pan. Sprinkle with almonds and lightly press them into the dough. Bake until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Cool on a rack. Use the foil to lift cookies from pan and cut into bars.

Notes From the Original
The front lists “Work Time: 20 min. Total Time: 35 min.” The reverse directs, “Bake until golden brown, about 5 minutes.” That timing is preserved exactly as printed. The clipping also gives the following information per bar: “Cal. 86 Pro. 1g Fat 5g Sod. 31mg Carb. 10g Chol. 17mg.”
