Chewy Oatmeal Cookie comes from the Cookies divider in My Mom’s Recipe Box. The original is a two-sided typewritten recipe card with visible stains, a handwritten baking-sheet correction, and a half-dipped cookie variation that continues onto the back.
Original Recipe Card


Ingredients
- 3/4 c Butter Flavor Crisco
- 1 1/4 c packed light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/3 c milk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 cups Quick Oats only
- 1 c flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 c raisins
- 1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Directions
Combine Crisco, b. sugar, egg, milk and vanilla in lg. bowl. Beat at med. speed until well blended. Combine oats, flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed just until blended. Stir in raisins & nuts. Drop rounded tbsp. of dough 2″ apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 deg. for 10-12 mins. or until lightly browned. Cool 2 mins.

Line sheet with foil – don’t grease

Makes about 2 1/2 dozen
Variation From the Original
Half-dipped cookies-Omit raisins & nuts. Bake & cool. Microwave 1 cup Fudge frosting for 20-25 seconds, or until smooth and thin. Dip top half of cookie in frosting. Lay on waxed paper until sel.
Preservation Notes
This typewritten recipe occupies both sides of an aged card. Brown stains appear across the title, directions, variation, and reverse, while a handwritten correction crosses the lower directions on the front. These marks and the two-sided continuation are preserved in the scans.
Notes From the Original
The typed directions say to use a greased baking sheet. A handwritten note adds Line sheet with foil – don’t grease. Both versions are preserved rather than silently choosing one. The half-dipped cookie variation begins on the front and continues on the back.
